Counselling Psychologist

Agatha is an extensively experienced BPS Chartered Counselling Psychologist, HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist, UKCP registered Psychotherapist, BPS accredited Supervisor, fully trained EMDR therapist, and a university senior lecturer and midwifery practitioner. She qualified in Counselling Psychology in 2006 and holds a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapist. She offers a caring and holistic therapeutic approach to enable people resolve their emotional difficulties.

She has experience of working with the BAME community providing BACP 2004 award winning evidence based innovative and protocol driven culturally responsive psychological intervention. She strongly advocates for the model and was involved in its inception at Terrence Higgins Trust where she worked as a BAME specialist counsellor for 15 years. Agatha has over 17 years’ experience in BAME Community Development work, spearheading, conducting needs assessments and setting up vibrant and successful women’s health, mental health, and empowerment projects in London and in Southern Africa. She has been working in mental health since 2003 and has varied experience with children, adolescence, and adults.

Agatha has inpatient and outpatient NHS, NGO and voluntary sector experience, which includes long term conditions, drug and alcohol, prison work, learning disabilities, hospice-based bereavement, psychosexual counselling, migrant communities, asylum seekers and refugees, perinatal mental health, HIV mental health, sexual health, and LGBT work. Agatha is trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Psychodynamic approaches, Humanistic approaches (Person Centred Approach, Existential Phenomenology and Personal Construct Psychology), Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing, Psychosexual and Couple Counselling, Systemic approaches, Solution focused approach, Emotional Freedom Techniques and Motivational interviewing. which informs her practice.
