Dr Alessandra De Acutis

Counselling Psychologist

Dr Alessandra De Acutis is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist who is registered with HCPC and BPS psychology professional bodies. She has 17 years of experience of working in a range of adult clinical NHS settings including a GP surgery, an acute psychiatric ward, a crisis resolution and home treatment team and a Community Mental Health Team. She holds a coaching qualification which is accredited to the International Coaching Federation and has been able to blend her psychological therapy skills with her coaching skills using evidence based practice from extensive research on coaching psychology.

Dr De Acutis has worked with a wide range of difficulties including anxiety, depression, OCD, bereavement, trauma, phobias, addictions and self-harm. She uses evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy and tailors them to each client’s individual needs.

Dr De Acutis has been working in her private practice for the past 7 years alongside her NHS posts and has particularly enjoyed helping clients to make a successful return to work following a mental health episode (or alternatively stay at work whilst experiencing mental health issues). She is studying a MSc in Occupational and Business Psychology and has worked with organizations to provide stress management and wellbeing workshops.
She is currently working on a wellbeing maintenance toolkit for her MSc dissertation and has been one of the test users of a return to work toolkit for employers and employees. This toolkit explores stages and conversations that should be happening between employers and employees during an absence due to a mental health episode and is currently being reviewed by the Department of Health.
