Dr Oliver Barnes

Counselling Psychologist

Dr Oliver Barnes is an HCPC and BPS registered Counselling Psychologist. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Experimental Psychology from the University of Oxford and completed his Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at the University of Surrey.

He has worked in a broad range of settings including schools, the NHS, and private hospitals. Most recently Oliver worked for an NHS Dialectical Behaviour Therapy service, seeing clients who had long-term, complex challenges such as borderline personality disorder. He has also carried out varied work with patients affected by issues such as: bereavement, relationship breakdown, abuse, addiction, depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

He has experience delivering Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. His preferred approach is to practice integratively, flexibly adapting to clients’ needs, with evidence-based interventions from Person-Centred and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

Oliver’s research interests are in improving accessibility to therapy and he uses this knowledge to create a warm and welcoming environment for his clients.
